Fragile Landscapes
The Fragile Landscape series of work emphasizes and investigates the natural (and/or unnatural) processes of erosion. Wearing away layers of porcelain reveals cracks and surface textures that echo geologic stress and erosion. The pieces are created quickly using porcelain and glaze. Post firing each piece is subjected to intensive sandblasting; this cuts and wears the surface, creating the desired conceptual and visual effects. Each porcelain painting employs color and a variety of surface treatments linking the work to the actual landscape as well as to the art historical romanticized landscape of traditional landscape painting.
